INTERNATIONAL FIREBIRD BOOK AWARD.
Up to three winners can be selected in each category, contingent on the established judging criteria and the aggregate scores of two independent judges. Often, winners are distinguished by merely a single point. The results are presented in order on our website for public viewing.
If you are the first person listed, you may refer to yourself/your book as a ‘first-place winner.’ If you are the second person listed, you may refer to yourself as a ‘second-place winner.’ If you are the third person listed, you may refer to yourself as a third-place winner.’ On rare occasions, we may also have a fourth-place winner or a tie for third place.
Categories showing only one winner often indicate that competing entries in that category did not meet the minimum judging score to be included as finalists or that the judges did not feel that the book represented that category. Categories you may have entered, or would expect to be listed, may not show up on the winner’s page at all. This is because no entry received a high enough score to be awarded first place. Therefore, we cannot declare a second- or third-place winner, since there is no first-place winner.
If you entered multiple categories, you might find that you are listed first in one category, listed second in another, or, in some instances, not listed in categories that may have submissions with higher scores than yours, or the judges did not feel that the book represented that category.
Each category is a stand-alone contest, often with different judging criteria. For example, you may have entered your book in the ‘book cover’ and ‘memoir’ categories. You could be a winner in the memoir category but not in the book cover category because the judging criteria for those categories are different, and your score may not be high enough to win in the book cover category.
Our judges invest a lot of time and thought in the judging process to allow you the greatest opportunity to receive a winning placement.
