The book “The Mind of a Horse: Science Meets Comics” was developed by the three as a team. Helena and Maija created the storyline and script. Helena then wrote the text for the book, while Maija illustrated most of the story with her comic-book art. Ville painted the cover, drew the illustrations for the text pages, and designed the color schemes for the book.
Dr Helena Telkanranta is an animal behavior scientist and nonfiction author whose previous books have primarily been published in her native language, Finnish. She is widely recognized as one of Finland’s top experts in animal behaviour science, and she has received several of the most prestigious literary awards in that country. She has a PhD in animal behavior science and has previously worked at the universities of Helsinki, Finland, and Bristol, UK. She is the founder and CEO of Arador Innovations Ltd, a science communications company developing new visual and interactive ways to make in-depth science easily accessible.
Maija Karala has a Master’s degree in evolutionary biology and a versatile career in public communication of science. She is a science journalist, nonfiction author, illustrator, and lecturer. In addition to major media in her native Finland, her works have also been commissioned by the National Museum of Scotland. At Arador Innovations, she is part of the core team, working on illustrations, conceptualizing, game development, literary research, story development, and script-writing.
Ville Sinkkonen is an artist whose skills include high-art paintings, 3D models, concept art, and more. He has previously worked at a virtual reality studio and a game development studio. His art has been commissioned by high-profile clients such as the BBC and the Chicago Field Museum. At Arador Innovations, he is part of the core team, working on illustrations, conceptualizing, cover design, layout, 3D modeling, game development, and virtual reality development.
