Book Not Selling? Problem-Solve to Fix It

Publication day comes and goes, and despite placing ads and sharing around social media, your book is slowly slipping into obscurity.
It’s super tough to write, launch, and market a book. Self-publishing has released a quagmire of books into the world, and it’s more difficult than ever to stand out. Before panic sets in, there are ways for you to climb out of the hole of anonymity. You can use one strategy to tweak your book elements so your book becomes noticed and stands out from the crowd.
Problem-Solve Your Book Sales
There could be many reasons why a book isn’t selling, but if you understand where you need to look to problem-solve low book sales, it can help you boost your sales and experience the type of success you have always dreamed about.
Look to Your Book
To look for evidence of problems, read your book reviews, especially the complaints. For example, are they complaining about a lot of errors, or is it in the story development? You can fix those with the help of a writer’s circle and/or a professional developmental editor or proofreader.
Is the book high-stakes enough? Most people want to read a story they can relate to, but also find exciting and engaging.
Check Your Cover against Other Books in Your Genre
I am personally experiencing this right now. The publisher pointed out that my book cover was not converting well from the beginning, so I might need to change the book cover within the next month.
Check your cover against all genres and subgenres for your book. Does it go belly-to-belly with others?
Check Your Book Description
Your book description may be sufficient, but is it eye-catching? Does it wow your readers? Does it make them say, I have to read this book?
I had a really good book description for Inside Dweller: Genesis, but I realized that it could be better! Thus, I redid the book description to highlight the high stakes in the book. I also brought the reader closer to my main character, Miranda Sheppard, by including a description that would make the reader care about her more.
Check Your Ad Copy
If your ad campaigns are feeling more like wells where you dump your money and never see it again, your ads could be the issue. Check the pictures you use (Hopefully, they are of your book cover), and whether or not you’re using engaging content. For example, you could turn this:
A woman works to find out her secret past.
Into this high-stakes description:
Giselle has no idea where she came from, and she is determined to find out no matter what the cost.
Be Humble and Experience Your Best Ever Book Sales
It is possible to stand out in the crowd. When you examine these elements, you will serve yourself best if you examine each element with a bit of humble pie. Make it a fact-finding mission; problem-solve your issues away.
