Blogatini Post – Writing Rituals Revealed

Writing Rituals Revealed

Writing can be difficult and sometimes tedious, but certain rituals can help make it easier. While some people are content to sit down and start writing simply, others have developed unique writing rituals to help them focus and get in the right mindset. From quirky superstitions to specific daily habits, these fascinating writing rituals can help turn writing into a more enjoyable experience.

One of the most unusual writing rituals is the “no shoes” rule. This involves removing your shoes before sitting down to write. Removing your shoes can help improve your mood. Shoes are a part of our everyday life, and for some, they can also represent feelings of stress and anxiety. Taking off your shoes can help to reduce these feelings, allowing you to feel more relaxed and open to creativity.

Additionally, going barefoot can create a sense of connection with the environment around you. This can help you to feel more in tune with your surroundings, allowing you to draw inspiration from them. It makes me wonder about writing in the nude. Anyone? Sounds next level to me.

In addition to the “no shoes” rule, some writers swear by wearing certain clothing items while writing. This might involve wearing the same shirt or even a unique hat. This repetition helps to get into a comfortable rhythm and stay in the writing zone. But, hmm… is it okay to wash that lucky shirt?

The most popular unusual writing ritual is the superstition that a writer should never write with a blank page. Many writers believe they must always have something written down on the page before starting to write. This could involve jotting down random thoughts, doodling, or drawing pictures. This ritual helps to relax and get in the right mindset.

Snack rituals are an essential part of the writing process. Whether it’s a snack to get the creative juices flowing or a reward for a job well done, having a special snack for each writing session can be a great way to stay motivated and make writing more enjoyable.

One of the most popular lucky snacks for writers is popcorn. Not only is popcorn an enjoyable and low-calorie snack (watch out for the butter and salt), but it is also believed to bring success in tasks such as writing. The popping of the kernels symbolizes the release of ideas and the miracle of growth, and it’s said that the more popcorn you eat, the more ideas you’ll have. For a bit of luck, sprinkle cinnamon over your popcorn, as cinnamon is known to boost brain power.

Another lucky snack is the banana. Believed to bring good luck and fortune, bananas are a great writing snack. Not only are they sweet and tasty, but they also get a sense of focus and concentration in the writing process.

A third lucky snack is chocolate. Chocolate is a great snack to have while writing as it helps to give the brain a boost of energy and is said to increase creativity. Plus, it’s a delicious treat that can help make writing more enjoyable.

A fourth lucky snack for writers is almonds. It is said that almonds bring good luck and prosperity to those who eat them and are believed to help bring success in any endeavor. They are a perfect snack because they provide a healthy energy blast.

Once your stomach is satisfied, how about feeding your brain? I am a big believer and user of positive affirmations. I have them written and sprinkled throughout my workspace and living space too. Positive affirmations are short statements you repeat to yourself to help build self-confidence and self-belief. When you speak these affirmations out loud, they can help to rewire the neural pathways in your brain and help you to become more positive and productive.

You can use many positive affirmations as part of your writing ritual. For example, start by saying to yourself, “I am energized” or “I am inspired; I am focused.” You can also use affirmations to remind yourself that you are capable and worthy of success. For example, “I am a successful writer” or “I write amazing stories.”

When you’re ready to start writing, repeat your positive affirmations for a few moments. This will help to get you into the right frame of mind and increase your confidence. Additionally, you can combine positive affirmations with other writing rituals to motivate yourself further.

And finally, the use of essential oils as part of a writing ritual can be a powerful tool for tapping into a deeper level of creativity and focus. Essential oils have been used for centuries for their therapeutic and calming properties and, more recently, for their potential to enhance creativity and concentration. So whether you’re writing a novel, blog post, or essay, essential oils can be a powerful ally in your writing practice.

Essential oils can anchor any of your writing rituals, helping to create a sense of focus. For example, one of the simplest writing rituals is inhaling an essential oil scent before writing. Focusing on the scent can help you transition from the outside world into the creative zone.

In addition to inhaling the scent of essential oils, you can also apply them to your skin. Applying essential oils to your skin can help you to ground yourself and become more mindful of the present moment. Using essential oils can also help create a sense of relaxation and calm, which can be beneficial when you feel overwhelmed or anxious.

These are just a few unusual writing rituals that can help turn writing into a more enjoyable experience.  But first, habitually use your writing ritual every time you sit down to work. This is important because it ensures a consistent routine to help you focus, get the most out of your writing sessions, and have some fun along the way.

Do you have any unusual writing rituals? Let me know.

I don’t have any popcorn or bananas handy, but I can offer you some organic Positive Affirmation Essential Oil Blends. Take a look. I have combined the power of scent with positive visual affirmations. Many of our author friends and Firebird Book Award-winning authors use these in their writing process.
