FIREBIRD WINNER SEAL
ANNOUNCING the 3rd QUARTER FIREBIRD BOOK AWARD WINNERS

133 AUTHORS JOIN THE FIREBIRD BOOK AWARD
CIRCLE OF WINNERS

VISIT THE WINNERS PAGE

Authors and publishers from around the world submitted their work to the Firebird Book Awards. Two judges from a select panel of 17 judges read each book in its entirety and independently scored each entry. All judges committed to a set of standardized criteria that evaluates the quality of the writing as well as production aspects. Only entries with the highest of scores were awarded the coveted Firebird.

We received nearly double the amount of entries this quarter. And because of that, we added a $500 cash grand prize to our current prize packages for the current 4th quarter contest. One winner will be chosen from all entries to receive the $500 grand prize. The grand prize winning book must receive top scores in all 20 judging questions as determined from a panel of 6 of our esteemed judges.

From the start, we included a charitable component to our awards by making all entry fees tax-deductible to the author. In return, we personally make and send handmade fun and colorful pillowcases to women and children in homeless shelters via Enchanted Makeovers, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. All entry fees fund this project. In this way, authors get notoriety for their work while helping to transform homeless shelters into bright and happy homes. It is a rewarding venture for everyone.

The Firebird Book Awards run quarterly contests so authors can receive recognition on a timely basis. Authors from all genres, mainstream, independent, and self-published are welcome. For additional winning authors, titles, and entry information:

Finding Ruth

Author Feature

Upcoming Audiobook

As fiercely independent Ruth struggles to stay self-reliant at the age of 86, each day brings her closer to an event that will alter her life forever.

While her author daughter, Cynthia Hamilton, shifts through Ruth’s possessions prior to her move into a skilled nursing facility, she discovers a previously unseen photo from 1949 and realizes how little she knows of her mother’s life.

As Alzheimer’s continues to warp Ruth’s once sharp mind, she can no longer shed any light on the past. Yearning to know who her mother was as a person in her own right, the author painstakingly reconstructs Ruth’s life from photos, letters, public records and firsthand memories.

What emerges is a portrait of a bright, beautiful woman who is propelled through decades of broken promises and heartache, bouncing from one ill-fated relationship to the next, but always staying strong, always surviving. Through a timeline going back sixty years, the author gleans a much better understanding of the woman she had known only as Mom.

I am having the best time narrating this poignant story while also feeling humbled to be the voice for this beautiful and brilliant woman, Ruth.

I will keep you posted with the upcoming completion date. Meantime, get a copy of

PAT'S PICK - a recent Firebird Book Award Winner

FB Jean Cookbook

What can I say? This cookbook even feels delicious. And it has the best native American fry bread recipe - a secret heirloom recipe.

So is it a coffee table book or a cookbook? That's how special this book is.

From mountain streams in the west to rolling prairies in the east, Montana's habitats and natural resources offer an abundance of culinary possibilities. Chef Barrie Boulds and author Jean Petersen present locally sourced epicurean dishes that exude Montanan charm. Historical context enhances seventy-five easy yet sophisticated recipes celebrating unique flavors and heritage.

Montana native, Chef Barrie has more than twenty-eight years of experience in the food industry as a chef and former owner of acclaimed fine dining restaurant Sydney’s Mountain Bistro in the Big Sky Montana area. Her former restaurant has been featured in Wine Enthusiast magazine and in various write-ups in the New York Times restaurant review, Fodor’s and USA Today, just to name a few, and she has served clientele from celebrities to former presidents and their staff.

Jean is an award-winning author of her recently released children's picture book, Kind Soup. (Most recently a Firebird Book Award Winner too) Jean has been a freelance writer and weekly columnist for 15 years with Western Ag Reporter covering a host of topics. Her weekly children's column is called Life on the Ranch with Banjo. You can also find her feature articles published in Distinctly Montana magazine, Raised in the West Magazine and Yellowstone Valley Women.
